The East Asian Association of Insolvency & Restructuring Prospectus

Due to the economic development in East Asia the increase of cross-border business activities, the closeness of mutual economic relations among East-Asian countries has been growing. Under such circumstances, the insolvency law and practice of one country have a large influence on other countries. Therefore, we believe that sharing information and exchanging views about each country in this field is an important issue.

Especially the promotion of international exchange, and the sharing and exchanging of information and views of academics and practitioners in the field of insolvency law and practice in China, Korea and Japan, which are large-scale economic countries in East Asian countries, will contribute to establishing clearer insolvency procedures in East Asian countries.

Based on such awareness, we hereby establish the East Asian Association of Insolvency & Restructuring (hereinafter referred to as the “Association”), aiming to provide a forum for sharing information and exchanging views on insolvency law and practice in East Asian countries.

We would like to accept members from a broad range of backgrounds in China, Korea and Japan, including academics, practitioners, businessmen, etc., and are planning to hold symposiums periodically (approximately once a year) to discuss current practices and issues in each country.

Though there are many international groups or conferences in the field of insolvency law and practice, most of them are led by Western countries, and their activities do not focus on Asia. Therefore, the Association hopes to provide the world with information on insolvency law and practice in East Asia, as the first international group led by East Asian countries in this field.
